Grace Prayer

By God's grace, I regularly plug in with God

Becoming Fully Present

Pray the Lord's prayer - Slowly - Thoughtfully

Input (Bible, quotes, stories)

Read:   Mark 1:35, Matthew 14:23, Luke 22:41-44

Mark 1:35 – Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

Matthew 14:23 – After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

Luke 22:41-44 –  He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.

“Prayer is not asking only. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of God, at His disposition, and listening to His voice in the depth of our hearts.”    Mother Teresa

“Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one’s weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.” Gandhi

“Prayer is the most concrete way to make our home in God.” Henri Nouwen

“For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.” Teresa of Avila

Reflection Questions

Why do you think Jesus prayed? What do you sense Jesus’ prayer was like? If prayer is conversation with God, what are the things that you do not talk to God about?

Training Exercise

Write this question down and put it up in a visible place. Ponder on it every day: What don’t I talk to God about?

Blessing for the week

May your conversations with God be life-giving and honest. May you share your real thoughts and emotions about all of life, with the God who desires to know you, and be known. And may you be open to God’s response. Amen
