Grace Prayer

By God's grace, I remember that we are all loved by God and made in His image.

Becoming Fully Present

Get a pen and paper. Listen to the song below as you draw a picture of a house, imagining that your heart is the house.   What does your ‘’house’’ look like at the moment?

Input (Bible, quotes, stories)

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself. C.S. Lewis (Mere Christianity)
Colossians 1:27  “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

2 Corinthians 4:6,7  “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.”

Galatians 2:20  “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me”

John 14:18-24 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?”  Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

Reflection Questions

What stands out for you about the Scriptures? How do you feel about it that God makes a home in us, that Christ lives in us? What does this mean regarding your value as a person? What does this mean practically in life to know that God lives inside you too? Why do you think God desires to make a home in us?

Training Exercise

Put your picture of your ‘’heart house’’ up somewhere you can see it and consider the Gift of God’s presence in you each time you see it OR listen Shaun Grove’s song: Welcome home a few times each day
