Last week a few of our friends became official family members at Kleipot Gemeente. We broke a clay pot in the service and then each one of them had to take a shard home and write a prayer on it. On Wednesday they came together in order to glue the pot back together. It’s always fun to see how they do this. At the end of the evening we reflected on the symbolism of the clay pot and why Paul used it as an image in 2 Corinthians 4. They had some great thoughts on how important the glue is, how incredibly important patience is and how one cannot anticipate how things will eventually shape out. They also reflected on the fact that the cracks allow God’s light to shine and that the message is not about our church but about God.
These symbols serve as great reminders for all of us at Kleipot.
